אֶת־זִמָּתֵ֥ךְ וְאֶת־תֹּועֲבֹותַ֖יִךְ אַ֣תְּ נְשָׂאתִ֑ים נְאֻ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃ ס

Your lewdness and your abominations you have borne,” declares YHWH.

Morphology

  1. אֶת־ (ʾet) – Root: —; Form: Direct object marker; Translation: “(marks the object)”; Notes: Introduces the following as the direct object.
  2. זִמָּתֵךְ (zimmatek) – Root: זמם; Form: Noun feminine singular construct + 2nd person feminine singular suffix; Translation: “your lewdness / wicked plan”; Notes: Suggests moral corruption or depravity linked with sexual sin.
  3. וְאֶת־ (ve-ʾet) – Root: —; Form: Conjunction + direct object marker; Translation: “and (the)”; Notes: Connects the second direct object.
  4. תֹּועֲבֹותַיִךְ (toʿavotayikh) – Root: תעב; Form: Noun feminine plural construct + 2nd person feminine singular suffix; Translation: “your abominations”; Notes: Often denotes idolatrous or detestable practices.
  5. אַתְּ (ʾat) – Root: —; Form: Independent pronoun, 2nd person feminine singular; Translation: “you”; Notes: Subject pronoun emphasizing personal responsibility.
  6. נְשָׂאתִים (nĕśāʾtim) – Root: נשא; Form: Qal perfect 1st person singular + 3rd person masculine plural suffix; Translation: “I have borne them”; Notes: The verb with suffix may be understood as YHWH bearing the sins, but context suggests irony: Jerusalem herself bears them.
  7. נְאֻם (nĕʾum) – Root: נאם; Form: Noun masculine singular; Translation: “utterance / declaration”; Notes: A technical prophetic formula marking divine speech.
  8. יְהוָה (YHWH) – Root: —; Form: Divine Name; Translation: “YHWH”; Notes: Covenant name of Israel’s God, affirming the authority of the declaration.
