Jeremiah 23:37

כֹּ֥ה תֹאמַ֖ר אֶל־הַנָּבִ֑יא מֶה־עָנָ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה וּמַה־דִּבֶּ֖ר יְהוָֽה׃

Thus you shall say to the prophet: ‘What has YHWH answered you?’ and ‘What has YHWH spoken?’

Morphology

  1. כֹּ֥ה (koh) – Root: כה; Form: Demonstrative adverb; Translation: “Thus”; Notes: Introduces direct instruction or speech, commonly used in prophetic declarations.
  2. תֹאמַ֖ר (toʾmar) – Root: אמר; Form: Qal imperfect 2nd person masculine singular; Translation: “you shall say”; Notes: Instruction given to a single individual, likely the prophet Jeremiah.
  3. אֶל־הַנָּבִ֑יא (el-ha-naviʾ) – Root: נבא; Form: Preposition + definite noun masculine singular; Translation: “to the prophet”; Notes: Designates the recipient of the quoted questions.
  4. מֶה־עָנָ֣ךְ (meh-ʿanakh) – Root: ענה; Form: Interrogative + Qal perfect 3rd person masculine singular with 2nd person feminine singular suffix; Translation: “What has He answered you?”; Notes: Feminine suffix possibly reflects grammatical concord with נְבוּאָה (prophecy) or used idiomatically.
  5. יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) – Form: Proper noun; Translation: “YHWH”; Notes: Subject of both interrogative clauses.
  6. וּמַה־דִּבֶּ֖ר (u-mah-dibber) – Root: דבר; Form: Conjunction + interrogative + Piel perfect 3rd person masculine singular; Translation: “and what has He spoken?”; Notes: Piel form emphasizes the force or clarity of divine speech.
  7. יְהוָֽה (YHWH) – Form: Proper noun; Translation: “YHWH”; Notes: Repetition underlines the expectation of authentic divine revelation.
