Morphology

  1. צֹנֶה (tsoneh) – Root: צאן (tsoʾn); Root Type: II-Guttural (א) (weak); Form: Noun masculine singular used collectively; Translation: “sheep”; Notes: A collective term for small livestock (especially sheep and goats), treated as a single group.
  2. וַאֲלָפִים (va-ʾalafim) – Root: אלף (ʾelef); Root Type: I-Guttural (א) (weak); Form: Conjunction וַ + noun masculine plural; Translation: “and oxen”; Notes: The prefixed conjunction links this herd term with the preceding collective “sheep.”
  3. כֻּלָּם (kullam) – Root: כל (kol); Root Type: Strong; Form: Quantifier כֻּל + suffix 3rd person masculine plural; Translation: “all of them”; Notes: Summarizes the listed domesticated animals as a whole group.
  4. וְגַם (ve-gam) – Root: גם (gam); Root Type: Strong; Form: Conjunction וְ + adverb; Translation: “and also”; Notes: Adds an additional category beyond the animals already mentioned.
  5. בַּהֲמֹות (ba-hamoth) – Root: בהמה (behemah); Root Type: III-He (weak); Form: Preposition בְּ + definite article הַ (assimilated in form) + noun feminine plural; Translation: “(with) the beasts”; Notes: Broad animal term, here pointing to non-domesticated creatures when paired with “field.”
  6. שָׂדָי (sadey) – Root: שׂדה (sadeh); Root Type: III-He (weak); Form: Noun masculine singular construct (state: construct); Translation: “of the field”; Notes: Completes the construct relation, yielding the idiom “beasts of the field,” i.e., wild land animals.
