Morphology

  1. וְאֵ֣ת (ve-ʾet) – Root: את; Form: Direct object marker with conjunction; Translation: “and [the]”; Notes: Marks the definite direct object of the verb, with vav-conjunction.
  2. כָּל־מַלְכֵ֣י (kol-malkei) – Root: מלך (melekh); Form: Construct chain: “all of the kings”; Translation: “all the kings of”; Notes: כָּל governs a construct plural noun.
  3. זִמְרִ֗י (Zimri) – Root: Proper noun; Form: Proper name; Translation: “Zimri”; Notes: A nation or people-group, possibly Arabian or eastern tribal.
  4. וְאֵת (ve-ʾet) – Root: את; Form: Direct object marker with conjunction; Translation: “and [the]”; Notes: Repetition emphasizes listing of separate political entities.
  5. כָּל־מַלְכֵ֣י (kol-malkei) – Root: מלך (melekh); Form: Construct plural; Translation: “all the kings of”; Notes: Same form as earlier, in parallel structure.
  6. עֵילָם (ʿElam) – Root: Proper noun; Form: Proper name; Translation: “ʿElam”; Notes: Ancient kingdom east of Babylonia (modern southwestern Iran).
  7. וְאֵ֖ת (ve-ʾet) – Root: את; Form: Direct object marker with conjunction; Translation: “and [the]”; Notes: Continues the list of kingdoms.
  8. כָּל־מַלְכֵ֥י (kol-malkei) – Root: מלך (melekh); Form: Construct plural; Translation: “all the kings of”; Notes: Repetition again reinforces poetic and rhetorical force.
  9. מָדָֽי (Madai) – Root: Proper noun; Form: Proper name; Translation: “Madai”; Notes: Refers to the Median kingdom, ancestors of the Medes in northwest Iran.
